I think it is probably astrological related but not necessarily due to the synastry you are looking at. Those combined chart conjunctions and oppositions may have some effect, but I think you should also look at current transits...i.e., for example where is transiting Neptune and Jupiter in relation to your natal Venus and where is transiting Pluto and Mars in relation to his natal Venus. Also is transiting Neptune aspecting his natal Mars and your natal Venus simultaneously? And furthermore you don't mention sunsigns, so check those too. Maybe your Suns are both aspected by transiting Neptune or transiting Pluto or some other transiting planet.
