Is being a loud singer a bad thing?

It all depends on whether or not you're singing in a choir, or trying out for a solo. I'm in a choir and it's the worst thing in the world when the person next to you is belting out the words and sticking out. So shut up when you're singing with other people. However, a solo is completely different. As long as you're still singing to your full potential and not harming your voice from singing loudly, a good soloist is loud enough to be heard over the choir. So belt. But try and keep it to a minimum when you have a microphone or you're doing a duet.
