IPA international phonetic alphabet?

Hi, well i recently discovered the IPA that's right i had no knowledge about it, i found it in wikipedia when i was reading about a language and i kept noticing that there was a little inscription, so anyone knows how the symbols of the IPA system are pronounced? like if you see a word in a language you don't know but then you see the IPA translation can you know how to at least pronounce the word? where can i learn the symbols with sounds? thanks in advanced =D
