Need help with the title of a funny 70's/80's children' book.?

There were these children's books from the 70's or 80's (they were all the rage in elementary school around 1984 - 86). I think it may have been a series. They were full of puns or wordplays, they were very funny and clever. They had drawings that accompanied the puns. For example, there'd be a sentence about getting to a fork in the road and there'd be a drawing of a literal fork in road. I wish I could remember specific examples, and I know my description is vague and lacking, but any help or suggestions?
