Traveling south america?

ok so me and some friends are trying to go back packing around south america. we will only have about a month, so we know we cant do much. we are all animal majors and are looking for some experiences that we can put on a resume and help us lear. we are students so cant spend too much money, but we have no idea where to go while we are there. can you help give us some ideas?
